Research Interests

My research centers on developing technologies that can efficiently extract valuable information from data while preserving privacy, security, and trustworthiness. My work spans security, privacy, and trustworthy AI challenges across data science, machine learning, artificial intelligence, blockchains, social networks, databases, and healthcare. I also study risk, incentives, and governance issues in assured information sharing, as well as the use of AI for cybersecurity and homeland security. More recently, my research has focused on security, accountability, fairness, and privacy in agentic AI systems, along with blockchain-enabled approaches for assured information sharing.

I am the recipient of various awards including the NSF CAREER Award, the AMIA 2014 Homer R. Warner Award, and the IEEE ISI 2017 Technical Achievement Award. I am also a Fellow of American College of Medical Informatics (ACMI), AAAS and IEEE, and a Distinguished Member of ACM.

Before September 1, 2024, I was an Ashbel Smith Professor of Computer Science at UT Dallas. See the UTD Data Security and Privacy Lab for prior projects and software.
